2. Installation of SAP Central Instance.

This is the page where I will put lot of screenshots…This is regarding installation of the ECC 6 CI. In my previous page I wrote about bare minimum things required to prepare your OS for SAP installation. Now the steps here for the installation of SAP ECC6 CI…
Comparing to SAP R/3 the ECC 6 installer is pretty good and the whole installation goes smooth. So staright to the point…How do you proceed. Log in SLES 10 (as prepared previously) as root. The first step was to dump all the SAP installation CD/DVDs in a directory in the root. I have created a directory in the root file system /soft and then created the appropiate subdirectories with the product no in the media…e.g for kernel ihave created a directory /soft/51032893 and dumpmed the DVD there. It looks like Screenshot 1 below.

Now simply change your directory and go to directory 51032260 ..This is the installation master and fire the installer. This is run inst and you need to fire the installer as ./runinst. This will land you up in the first screen as shown in the Screenshot 2.

Remeber here the installation done with only ABAP AS. I have not selected JavaAS. In the first screen you need to select the installation you need to do. I have selected Oracle Central system. Click next to arrive at the parameter mode default settings, choose typical. Question may arise saying why do u need to do default? Feel it is better to default first time. Once you go thru then U can master the same further more using Custom. Press Next to go ahead.

Here you need to choose the software units, choose ECC and AS ABAP as shown in the screen below and then ch0ose next.

Now this is the time when you need the SAP SID, this is SAP system id and always to be a 3 Character string. Besides you need to define SAP mount directory which is /sapmnt directory as you created during the OS prepartion and also to decide whther to go for Unicode installation or not? Refer to the Screenshot3 below for the same.

Finally we need to choose a master password for the system. This is the password for 2 SAP administration user account i.e. SAP* and DDIC, 2 OS user account one for SAP i.e. <sid>adm and the other is for oracle i.e. ora<sid>. You can keep different password for different in the final installtion screen or can keep one for everything and change finally before you handover the system to user. I choosed the later. Finally you need to choose database SID as well as host. As I have instlled the same in one single machine, I have choosed the same host and SID kept same as my SAP SID (3 character). Refer to the Screenshot 4.

In the rest screens one by one you need to supply the location for the dumps (I mean the directory path where you have saved the CD.. Refer to page Installation of ECC6. – An Experience itself  for the directory listing where media were dumped). Here are some more screenshots (6,7,8,9)  related to the dumps…you will be asked to provide the location for installtion exports. Here is a twist, although in the installer asks for 2nd disk of the installer exports you need to provide the path of disc 11. Let no pain at all. It will also ask you the Oracle Server, UC Kernel, Oracle Client media location and you need to select the path as it is shown in the subsequent screenshots shown below. You need to identify them and move step by step every screen. Any time it rejects, the best option is to check the file “cdlebel.asc” for confirming what is actually there in the dump location.

After all media/software dump location is located you will reach to the parameter summary screen. Here once again you are allowed to add remove any component, change password of different system user etc…..Finally it will ask you the solution manager key. Without this the solution manager key you can not go on for install. This is once again depended on your SID and HOSTNAME. You can do this by logging in a Solution Manager using transanction SMSY. Once again the the key is SID and HOSTNAME. Enter the Key and once done click next which will start installing the components one by one….  It will go on installing the componenets and you are free to sit idle unless it comes to you with a prompt asking database installation. Installtion of database I will write in anther page and it is going to long…

Oh Ho , I forgot, do not exit, you have done only one part of it , you need to logging in the server as ora<sid> user, do the database install (refer to Installation of Database )and then come back to the this screen and say next. Then installer will create the database, configure the connections and communications and then put the sap database schema inside. This is actually the SAP export.
