After I install Solman 7.1, with lot of my (specially to me, this might not be same with other who are already expert on this) surprise, I understand I need to do the installation of host agent as well as diagnostic agent to properly utilise solution manager. This is as of monitoring and generation EWA for java system is concern. Earlier to my experiece with Solution Manager I was really really novice for understanding the totality of the system I was able to create EWA only for ABAP systems….This time some my colleagues demands me to provide EWA for java as well as non SAP systems like BO. Let see how much can succeed. When I went to install host agent and diagnostic agent, I needed to scanned thru all the satellite SAP systems. To my dismay I found that because of default installation with some of my newer generation of product, in one landscape, both of them is already present.I had no objection with the presence of SAP host agent, but diagnostic agent was there with default SID i.e. DAA. This lead to problem, as I already had DAA as a diagnostic agent SID for my solution manager…So I decided the following……I will uninstall the Solman Diagnostic where it is already present in any of the satellite
SAP system, upgrade host agent and then install standalone version of diagnostic agent on the same. For those system where none of them is present (All older generation SAP instances) I will go for installation of standalone host agent and diagnostic agent. So in this page, I decided I will keep following parts.

  • Uninstallation of Diagnostic agent,
  • Upgrade of host agent
  • Installation of Host agent and
  • Installation of the diagnostic agent.

Hope I can finish documenting them as early as possible….

Uninstall SAP diagnostic Agent: To do so you need to download SAP installer NW CE 7.1 Ehp1. Unistallation is pretty simple….Just start sapinst and select the uninstallation… Refer image below….
Removal SAP Diag - Software delivery tool
Removal SAP Diag - Software delivery tool -2
It will then allow you a drop down for an SAP system to be removed…..I have selected the default installation of my diagnostic agent …..I Because I had to change the SID, this is the only option left to me.
Removal SAP Diag - Software delivery tool - 3
Here we need to select the instance directory as it was showing earlier…..I had to very carefull about the instance, because I had a real SAP instance also running on the system….It then shows up the diagnostic agent and the instance number it was using ……..refer to below screen capture…..
Removal SAP Diag - Software delivery tool - 4
And then the  uninstallation starts……Finally it gets completed…..
Removal SAP Diag - Software delivery tool - 5
Once I finished the uninstallation, I just upgraded the host agent…..This will cover up in the section below.
Upgrade Host agent: This is very simple…..
